Growth in Turkish tourism promises big property future, says expert

Published on: 29/01/2008

The increasing numbers of tourists going to Turkey for holidays will have a knock-on effect on the property market there, ex-pat lifestyle magazine ShelterOffshore.com has predicted. Magazine director Rhiannon Williamson said: "Some people say that this year's holidaymaker is next year's holiday home buyer, because many tourists who visit a new destination and really fall in love with it," prompting many to buy properties there. She added that this desire would bring dividends for Turkey, partly because the number of tourists from overseas is expected to increase to 25 million this year, with four per cent annual growth expected up to 2017. This was being supported by the Turkish government which was doing "all it can" to boost numbers through advertising, while more low-cost flights were becoming available. Earlier this month the Guardian reported that there are now estimated to be 17,000 Britons with Property in Turkey, while Homesgofast.com has reported that property prices in the country have risen by between 15 and 20 per cent in the last year.
